Early Tank, Full Size Spare, Fuel Injection
For my project 1979 911, I would like to run a full size spare because I want a spare with a tire that can readily be replaced. From reading posts on this forum, the only way seems to be to run an early tank, for which it appears that a reproduction would be the Dansk 1615600100 model. This tank has three ports on the bottom. Looking at photos, it appears the fuel connections go over the suspension cross member, and it looks a little tight already for space. The early cars had the round steel tube cross member. I am wondering if I will have problems making the connections for supply and return if I am running the later aluminium cross member.

My 1973.5T with CIS came with the aluminum crossmember and the early tank with full service spare. It does not interfere with the lines. However, I can't vouch that the Dansk tank is exactly the same as my OE tank.

Yes, you will have problems, at least I did with a SWB. Apparently the trick is to tip the tank for the fittings and then set it.

I did it on a 1978, using a Dansk repop tank. It was tight, but doable. I used a banjo bolt fitting for the return to the smaller center tank fitting, used the factory screen outlet in one of the larger fittings, and plugged the third one.

Not an issue with MFI (which I ran) because the filter console in the engine compartment de-aerates the fuel before it's delivered to the MFI pump. The fuel pump in the pics is a 3.2 Carrera pump which had conveniently sized fittings for what I was trying to do. Hope that helps!

I can't see buying any other tank if 16 gallons is enough and you want a full size spare. Unlike many of the other tanks, it has baffles and a swirl pot. This means better fuel delivery and filtration.
