Speaker replacement advice
I have Boston Acoustics RX57 speakers installed in the front doors of my 1985 3.2. While the sound quality is decent for my needs, both speaker grilles are unfortunately broken. The speakers are mounted on what appears to be the original door speaker housing, part number 91155521700. According to the speaker specs, the mounting diameter is 119mm.
Can anyone recommend an alternative speaker available in Europe, ideally with a matching grille, that I can use as a replacement? Thank you in advance |

Maybe go to Crutchfield.com and put in your car info to see what fits. Then if they don’t ship to Europe or shipping is a fortune, see if any of the suggestions are available to you locally?

I just received speakers from lakewell for my 87. They are reproductions of the original You may want to try them. The speakers were shipped from Belgium

You can also try these guys: https://www.woodyscustomshop.com/, but of course shipping and customs could be prohibitive. I still have my Boston Acoustics system in my '88 and while not 'state of the art', it's fine for the times I use the system. BA is no longer offering any automotive audio or replacement parts. What size grilles are you looking for ? I may have some in my audio spare parts.

You can fit 6.5" speakers in a G-body 911, but you will need an adaptor/spacer to make them fit flush. You will get better bass response from a 6.5" than the stock 5.25" speakers, but you will need to modify the door cards to fit the larger diameter.
Go to this thread below and look at the diagram for the adapter. You can print it off after adjusting for scale and make them out of pvc or mdf if you're handy. There used to be a member here who made and sold them ("Patina Research"?). I have them in my car. Not sure he's still around, though. https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/291793-mounting-door-speakers.html |

Thank you @Synchro Joe and @Mocker. Woodyscustomshop looks nice. I will keep an eye on their Ebay's listing. My BA RX57 speakers are 5.25".

Had a similar issue on our '86. Ended up getting speakers from parts-express.com (they ship internationally). Specifically the Wavecor speaker line, replacing the tweeters and mid-base speaker components. They have 4 and 8 ohm options so you can match to your current impedance needs.
In the end the sound was much better than the original Porsche speakers by a long shot. |

I fitted Focal 165K2P PolyKevlar 2-way component speakers and they sound awesome, and fit in the factory location in the doors 👍🏼
I can’t remember if they used spacers or cut out extra material to make them fit, but it was well worth it! I drive them with an Alpine amplifier in the frunk. Last edited by 911TT33; 11-22-2024 at 11:40 PM.. |
