I would use electrical contact cleaner. Put some on a swab and gently wipe. Don’t use Qtips because cotton fibers will get all over it. Amazon sells foam swabs.

Isopropyl alcool. Gently wipe with a soft brush. Let it dry by itself. But if it's working why do you want to clean it? Old analog electronic circuits such as this one are bullet proof and not very sensitive to dirt, dust or whatever.

not being use

It’s sitting in a closet not being used, thought it might continue to corrode if not cleaned up. no? i cant believe, by the looks of it, that it works

DeOxit will put a bit of protection on it and help clean it.

Yes, corrosion (moisture or actual water) occurred - it's not "dirty".

Mine works and so does the center button!
If you ground pin #1 or #7, it will close or open. I bought a $10 remote key from ebay and wired it up according by soldering a tiny wire to those pins etc. Keyless open/close, very convenient and totally reversible.
