Is it really coming from the inside or could it be something
inside the door? I had a noise coming from a broken window regulator that was not happening every time either. Now I also have a noise coming from a wheel bearing that's only happening after having driven the car for a while. Do you get the noise when you drive on a bump? Ludovic |

Do you have a Chinese passenger riding along with you?

It sounds as if its coming from outside the car, then echoing against the curb or wall that Im driving against.

Check your hubcaps - I once had a little piece of metal broken off one of mine that made a similar noise as it rattled around.

Check the sheetmetal around your exhaust. I had the shield under the cat on mine break a mounting point, and it would rattle from time to time causing a very similar metal on metal noise.

That's interesting.
When we took the 'Bomber on a road trip to CA two years ago, I had a horrible, persistant noise from the same area. I solved the problem by stopping at the In-N-Out in Redding, CA

My had the problem with my Dodge Ram pickip. The spare tire chain was dragging underneath. Did you check your 911 for the same problem?
Just kidding. Is it high pitched metal clinging or more of a clicking noise? If it's clicking, it could be CV joints. Does it do it when driving on straight, smooth roads or when on bumpy roads or when turning?

Thanks for the advice fellas.
Its more of a "ching ching ching" and kind sounds like chains rattling for a moment. Its very intermittant, and not repetetive in any form of pattern...it just happens, driving straight down the road at a moderate speed. |

I had the same thing. Turned out to be part of the hard plastic form that holds the wheel (and doesn't scratch it) broke off when they were doing a tire change. Apparently it broke off and fell inside the tire. After a few thousand miles worked it's way away form the rim and dropped inside the tire. centrifical force kept it on the outside of the tire when going fast - but when I dropped speed it cling clinged around.

Ah, another possibility is the dust cover on the rear shocks.
