Vehicle History Help

Need advice on researching the prior ownership history for my 911, specifically the name of the original owner?

Carfax only gives general information. The original Porsche dealer is closed.

Not sure if Porsche maintains these records based upon VIN, or if the state DMV would divulge that information?

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Regards,

JD

Finding the original owner is probably not going to happen due to privacy policies. With newer vehicles many do report, and I can get some details from CarFax if done at a shop that reports. There is a chance you could find maintenance records by calling a Porsche dealership and asking if there are any records in there system. I went to one Dealership and gave them my brother in laws 1995 VIN, and they were able to tell me he never showed up for a recall service 15 years earlier, but he did not use a Dealership for most of his service work so there are no maintenance records.
Mine is a 1973, and no one seems to be able to deal with the shorter VIN used in those days, the computer system needs 17 digits of newer Porches.

Go over to Early911S registry. DaveP may be able to help with a Kardex.

Thank you for the suggestions. Mine is a ‘89 so it has the newer vin, but carfax does not have specific names. Perhaps if i could find a sympathetic DMV employee, but not likely??

89? Unless you have records going that far back probably out of luck. I don't think it makes any difference if the car is stock.

Due to privacy laws many states purge DMV records every X years after the last year a car was licensed. This makes tracking down records much more challenging than in the past.
