VW/Porsche Playhouse - another milestone

Today we poured the slab. Borderline fustercluck! Last week when we did the footers and stem walls, it was just too easy. Everyone was on time, everything worked perfectly - heck, I was only 10 minutes late to work!

Today was different. The cement truck was late - he got lost in traffic - so I have the pump guys and finishing guys sitting there on their thumbs waiting. So finally he shows, but we quickly find out he can't get cement out of the truck! The person who 'used it last' didn't clean the auger, which was baller up with concrete! We spent over an hour with sledgehammers, prybars, and finally an air chisel, to get the auger freed up. The driver's one redeeming quality: he drives a 911.

After that, things went better, but we used way more concrete than we'd originally estimated, so we had to send the truck back for a second load. - another hour paying guys to stand around. We used 18 yards for the foundation - 10 1/2 for the slab, 7 1/2 for the footers and stem wall.

The finishers had no problem dealing with the lift pit, which was expected to be a PITa (get it?) The only 'problem' with the pit is that it sucked up a lot of concrete.

So, now they can begin framing! Whohoo!

So far I'm $5300+ into this project, and all I have to show for it is a large chunk of concrete and some permits. Oh, and I finally got the quote from the county to hook me into the sewer - $4100! It was originally going to be ~$1200, but for some reason, when they built my house, they ran a separate line to the street for each bathroom, so I have a nice extra ''impact fee"

Good looking plot of cement. If it doesnt work out, you can put a couple of basketball hoops at each end and hold 3 on 3 tournaments like Gus Macker.
