75 911 Carrera Headlight Update
Over the last 18 months I have been really productive in terms of rebuilding and updating my 75 911 Carrera - engine and transmission rebuilds with ITB EFI, brake upgrades, shaving the rear and tucking the front bumpers, so to finish off the year I want to update the look of my US spec headlights.
Original headlights with deep trim rings: ![]() I was looking around on Pelican Parts and decided to try the Rennline EL13 LED conversion units. The short story: not good, they function correctly, but once I added the trim rings, the trim rings don't smoothly flow with the fenders as the original trim rings did. The problem as I see it is that the Rennline headlight assembly attaches at the lip on the upper edge of the headlight bucket on the fender where the OEM trim ring attaches and then the Rennline trim ring presses onto the headlight assembly (an interference fit that I found requires 2 sets of hands to accomplish once the glass headlight lens is installed with the rubber gasket around its edge). The trim ring then kind of "sticks out" around the headlight assembly. See the following photos. Without the trim ring installed the headlight assembly matches up well with the fender line. ![]() Add the trim ring and now the headlight assembly no longer flows with the fender line. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() This result is hideous in my opinion and totally unacceptable, so I removed the Rennline EL13 units and ordered a pair of Porsche H4 headlamp assemblies (p/n 911-631-113-00), a pair of Porsche H4 Headlight rims (p/n 911-631-141-00) that I will have painted to match the body color, plus H4 bulbs, etc. Hopefully now I will get the Euro headlight look that I admire.

I also did the same.
Shameless plug (no pun intended) with the H4s I sell these plug and play LED projector bulbs so you can retain the OE Euro look with modern day LED output that won't blind oncoming traffic. ![]() ![]()
