The 911 I bought last week, as part of the engine rebuild, has a Jacobs ignition system of some variety in it. The previous owner said it was installed not piggy-back with the Porsche CD unit, but in place of it.
The tach doesn't work in the car, and I'm trying to come up with a couple good starting points to figure out why. Aparently the "normal" installation of the Jacobs unit is piggybacked with the stock CD unit, and the tach is still read off of there... although I'm completely clueless as to how it does that. ![]() Is anyone else running the Jacobs system this way on a '68 or similar car? Any trick to making the tach work? Could it just be not hooked up? Any tips are appreciated, or even a brief explanation of what all these parts do. I'm a software map kinda guy, these distributors, carbeurators, points, etc are all greek to me!

my guess is that the tach output signal from your jacobs unit is incompatable with the tach.
what is being used to trigger the jacobs unit? points? magnetic ignitor?
