LED’s in H4 housing

My Halogen bulbs are too dim. Has anyone had issues with LED bulbs in a H4 housing. I’m thinking that they may get too hot because the headlights are pretty much sealed off in the headlight bucket.

there are a ton of threads on this topic -- here's a recent one (I searched forum for "h4 led") https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1109529-h4-led-upgrade.html I've been VERY happy with higher wattage halogen bulbs in my H4 housings -- specifically http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/redirect?link_code=ur2&camp=1789&tag=wwwpelicanpar-20&creative=9325&path=https://www.amazon.com/CEC-Industries-Halogen-Headlight-Bulb/dp/B002CYTQH0 When properly aimed (KEY with h4s), even the standard wattage bulbs should be a clear improvement over our 86' sealed beam headlights. If your bulbs are currently "dim," I'd start by confirming they're properly aimed and that the reflectors/insides of lenses are clean before dropping $ on new bulbs.

I worked with a supplier to develop a set of LED H4 bulbs with projector housings that are completely plug and play into the H4 housing.

Sharp cut-off line even with the fluted lens and significantly brighter than the 100/55W halogens and Rennline bi-LEDs I had before. Best part is the headlights look completely stock when not on.

Had a few folks reach out regarding the LED H4 projector bulbs that I have. I didn't want regular LED bulbs as they have a lot of glare when used in halogen housings.

The projector portion comes apart for ease of installation as it allows you to secure the clip onto the projectors without having to maneuver around the cooling fins of the bulb itself. Then you can insert the LED in. For my housings there was a small metal cover 'bucket' designed for a halogen bulb that needed to be removed.

LED Projectors

I wish I had seen the small style of LED projector Skunkworks posted sooner.
I've been looking for an option to replace my H4 Boslla Tricolor LEDs with a projector style for a while. While they are much brighter than my original H4 bulbs, the problem is my original H4 reflector bowls have lost their luster, and one a lot more that that other. I guess I could have bought new reflector bowls, but that's too simple!
I opted to go for Morimoto M Bi-LED projectors with DRLs and flasher switchbacks, and retrofit them into the the original H4 buckets.
The projectors work great with the brightness I want and well controlled distribution and cut-off.
I got a couple '66 VW style clear lenses to try out a new look, but I'm not so sure with the resulting looks. I may go back to the fluted H4 lenses but I'm not sure how much that would affect the controlled distribution of the projector. I'm leaning towards painting the chrome and metal parts matt black as a winter project, then reassess whether to put the fluted glass back on.

After

SkunkWorks can you show a few pics of them installed? Also, how much juice are they pulling?

I purchased these on eBay UK a yr or two ago. Philips LED-HL H4 bulbs at 5800K cool white light. I love them in my H4 housings with fluted lenses. Looks like they are about $125 + shipping.

I just have a hard time with the modern interpretations that force you to stare into the headlights...!

These plugged in quite easily and haven't had any issues with heat or cutting out.

Porsche is selling the Philips LEDs, which are legal in certain countries. They are legal because they meet minimum requirements, but not because they are better than a quality halogen.

PM me if you're interested in a set as I'm the source for them.

Pictures installed. Personally, I'm a big fan of being able to retain the stock headlight aesthetics under the fluted lens.
