912 conversion

Are the 911 engine mount bases for the rear corners available or do you have to make them, cut them out of another car???

They are available. I chose to fabricate them out of some heavier guage plate.

They have been in the car for a couple of years and 10 track days with no problems.

Good luck with the conversion. What engine are you puttin in?

I took the measurements of a freinds SC and made up a template out of a piece off thin aluminium plate.

I then gave the measurment and template to a sheet metal guy who made the mount out of 2mm plate.

I then welded the mounts in and meausred the centres for where the engine mount brackets shoud go. I took the measurments off a SC.

I then drilled some pilot holes and checked against the bracket that mounts on the back of the engine.

Then I used a hole saw to drill through the plate.

I didn't drill the holes for the engine mount brackets until the engine was in position.

I hope this helps

If you need pictures I can send some when I get home from work.......

This does help especially this tip.
"I didn't drill the holes for the engine mount brackets until the engine was in position."

Good luck with the conversion.

Just ask if you have any problems, I think I came across them all.

I'm beginning to consider such a conversion for my 69 912. I've already posted an oil tank question here but perhaps you would be a good person to ask. What 911 oil tank will fit my 69? I'm thinking of a 3.0L transplant although the early screamers are also under consideration.

Any thoughts?

I put in a tank from a 3.2, I had to make up connections for the oil return but it was not a hard job.

You will just have to make up a template to to get the hole the right size and position. It also helps if you remove the bumper as it makes it a lot easire to get the tank in and out.

Thanks for all the help. On the oil tank I have one from a 72. I just cut out a hole that I measured from one in the wrecking yard. I think just about any thing wil fit in there. Most important is that it jives with the motor and the oil cooling system you plan to use. Im having more of an issue with the electrical stuff all working out. I think I'm just going to run my own wires and forget trying to make it work with the stock 912 stuff.... Any thoughts???
