Help needed: 66 911 Identification

Hi 911 experts,

I am considering buying a 66 911 that is pormised to be highly original. The car looks like it but there is a discrepancy the numbers, according to the book I consult (Original 911):
Chassis: 304787
Engine: 908026
Same numbers can be found on the original warranty book of the car. Current owner does not have Cardex available.

The book places the chassis in model year 66, the engine in 67 (beginning to count in Calendar Year Mar 66??).

Could I ask any of you guys to check other sources if you have and let me know anything you find out that could clarify things here prior to ordering the Certificate?

My email is michaelabaum@yahoo.com.

Thanks a lot,

Mike

When I get home I can check Paternie's 911 Red Book but that model year should run from August 1966 to July 1967, so it's probable the numbers are good. I'd trust the warranty book if the numbers match...

I'm home, and I checked. My copy of the Red Book shows that engine as being a '66, and the range disagrees with Morgan's numbers. There was a discussion on the 356 Mailing List saying that British stats tend to be unreliable - maybe this is one of those cases.

Hey Emanuel,

Thanks for checking. I also have the Red Book but am somewhat disappointed by the version I have: Instead of putting in the chassis number for the 66 911s, they put the engine number in this column. In the engine number column, they put in the engine numbers for the 67 models. Yikes! That was not helpful at all for me so I was relying on the Original 911 book).

Again, thanks for checking. Let me know if there is anything else I could do prior to ordering the Certificate.

Mike
