seat hinges, seat back removal

did I make a big mistake by pushing this hinge cylinder/pin into the seat back when trying to remove the seat back front the lower seat?

Now i can’t line up the cylinder to push it back in the hinge opening or remove the seat back…. the cylinder is impeding the separation… no space to clear
I assume if I can’ somehow separate the top from the bottom, i will put that cylinder in prior then line them up together at the hinge, then the pin

what to do! messing with it is tearing the seat cover.

typically you would remove the bolts above that pin location and separate the back above the recline hinges. you will need to remove the 2 bolts per side. The one visible in your picture, the other is located at the top just above the edge of your photo.

got that..everything off

Yes, I have all bolts disconnected but I cant get the cylinder pushed in far enough to separated the top from the bottom. Will it push in further or have to be pulled out somehow? nor can I get it pushed into the higne hole from the back side because there is no space between the seat top and the hinge back through, pushed outward to get the clip on again.

can you post a pic of your actual seat? that way I can see how you are trying to accomplish removal and where you are stuck.

may also be a good idea to post an overall pic of your seats since they are power seats it would be good to better understand what model seats they are since they wouldn't be original to your 81.

check out the last post in this thread. it is from the 964 forum on rennlist, but I believe it has a similar seat base to the 85+ 911 seats.

very helpful..but

My issue is that the small stub axle is pushed into the upper seat back which impedes the upper and lower seats to separate. At this point Im trying to push it in further (that. possible, is there room?) to clear or push it back into the hinge slot, which is proving to not be lining up. I will post a video about whats happening.
Thank you the help.

did you investigate the process in the post i linked, specifically the removal of the square shaft from the inside of the hinge pin? in that thread it sounded like once the shaft is removed they were able to push the pin the rest of the way into the seat back to get it to release.
