Can someone please help me with the process of removing the wires to the mirror. I have th door pannels removed and the mirror off. How and where does the wires disconnect??

Thanks,
Bryan

On my 1980SC there is a connector behind the mirror and motor. the mirror is held in by 3 clips. you can seperate the mirror from the motor frame uing a putty knife slipped between the mirror and motor frame. Pry gently so so don't crack the heating element on the back of the mirror. Remove the motor frame to get at the round wire connector. Seperate the connector. The female connector on the harness from the door is easily removed. You need a small pair of needle nose pliers. Create a wire diagram of the connector for later reinstall of the wires. At the back of the connector where the wire/ pin are. You need to grab the pin and turn it in the connector to free the locking mechanism. after turning a little gently pull on the wire/pin to remove from connector. The other end of the mirror harness comes out of the front of the door and connects to a connector mounted on the inside fender well area. The mirror harness connector is molded rubber and the pins can not be removed.I just removed the driver door mirror this weekend.

Not on an 86, You have to remove the wires from the white plastic plug with the right tool. I used a Lisle 56500. You have to push the tool into the plug, this will colapse the detent so you can remove the wire. Be sure you make a legend as each wire color corosponds to a number on the plug. Then simply fish the wire through the hole.
