Ear clips or hose clamps?

I need to replace this rubber reducing sleeve in the vacuum system, because mine is pretty badly cracked:

https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/93020724301.htm?pn=930-207-243-01-M100

This is installed with two Oetiker ear clips. I don't have an ear clip tool, and I'm doubtful I'll ever need one again. First question is, how do I remove the old clips? Cut them, I assume?

Second, I know some people use plumbing hose clamps when they replace this. Any reason I shouldn't just do that? I guess I can use end nippers to put new ear clips on, if I can get them in there. Looks tight.

Thanks!

You can just cut the old clips out.

The PET shows that part with hose clamps instead of Oetiker clamps. At some point even Porsche stopped using the Oetiker clamps.

The larger clamp is listed as: 999 512 552 00 hose clamp S25/9ZY

The smaller clamp is listed as: 999 512 554 00 hose clamp A9X18

I use a straight tip screwdriver and wedge it in the crimped area, to loosen them up and remove.

You can buy an Otiker crimper on Amazon for 10 bucks. You never know when you might need it and I’ve used mine multiple times over the years.

I live in Australia, the land of $10 Amazon tools might as well be the moon 😄 (I am American, believe me, I miss it.)
