Replacing 911 Door Skins
Does anyone have any tips or advise on removing and installing new metal outside door skins on the 74-89 Porsche 911's?

It's really quite simple. Did you have a specific question about it ?

Wouldn't it be easier to just unbolt the old door and replace it with a good used door and paint to match?
good used doors are readily available and not that expensive around here, maybe that isn't the case in other places. ....... |

Kevin,
Are there any unique tricks to removing the skin, and replacing it? Our body shop guy has replaced door skins on other types of cars, but never a Porsche. We just want to see if there are any tricks to make the process easier (ie. do this in order to do that...) Thanks, Brian Minson 9 Magazine http://www.9magazine.com Last edited by 9magazine; 07-03-2003 at 02:32 PM.. |

another magazine? No offense, but shouldn't you get the first one right before going for number two?
edit: allow me to clarify. I haven't seen a recent issue, but the current web site has got to go. Given the design and content for the online presence, it is hard for me to consider even looking at the magazine. ymmv. Last edited by nostatic; 07-03-2003 at 02:45 PM.. |

Porsche doors are actually easier than most because you don't have an upper window frame to contend with. Grind the edge of the damaged skin to remove it and replace with the new outer skin. Spot weld the new skin as outlined in the factory repair guide and seam seal when done welding. I like to apply a bead of Wurth panel adhesive before spot welding to give that extra "solid" sound to the finished job.
