Guards red question
I will be repainting my Porsche in the next couple of months and would like the brightest red available without a trace of orange. Thru the years Porsche has used different paint codes for guards red. Are there any paint experts out there who know the difference? Thanx!

They may have used different codes, but the color is the same. I have a Guards Red Boxster and it looks identical to a '44 Jeep I painted with universal formula Guards Red. The clear coat on the Box gives it a little more depth. Tht Jeep is single stage acrylic enamel. Previously, I had a 356B painted Ferrari red. It was a two stage job. I didn't paint that one, but it was definately red.

If you want the reddest red, without any trace of orange, then Guards Red is not for you.
Park a Guards Red 911 next to a red Ferrari, or even a Cinnabar Red 1980s BMW M6, and you'll see what I mean! The 911 looks positively orange in comparison. |
Double what SoCal said... Guards red definately has orange tint to it, particularily under certain light.
As an interesting sidebar, I found that the OEM touch up paint to be a shade too 'red' for my 86, so I found some Nissan Desert Red paint which matches perfectly. |
Peruse the chip book at a paint shop - you may wind up with a F---- color on your nice German car.
