dillema: Track guys opinions How do es-100s compare to avs intermed? maybe A032?
some of the es-100 feedback on the tirerack web indicates pretty spongy turn in and too much sidewall flex
I always used avs intermediates for my regular street tires and for "away game" DE's because i don't trailer. they performed and wore remarkably well though not like victoracers on the track I'm trying to decide whether to get a set of the ES 100 to replace my shot intermediates to take to an indiana DE and then use on the street some too I have 3 sets of rims, one of which is strictly for street, and another for real track rubber, ie - Victoracers, so in theory I could devote these Fuchs to "away game" track tires / local track raintires such as AO32 YOKOS because they wear well and aren't super pricey I don't really wnat to spend the extra money to buy and keep 2 sets of track only tires but I probably would object if it significant benefit what do you guys think? ( I run in B group ) |

I can't comment on the ES 100s as I've never driven on them, but I ran AVS Intermediates for a while before making the switch to A032s. I still use the A032s as, for me, they are the best thing out there in an R-compound tire that will allow me to drive on the street (I have only one set of wheels and I live in a pretty rainy part of the country).
There is no comparison between AVSs and the A032s. I was always "over driving" the AVSs. They simply weren't made for the rigors of track use. The A032s, on the other hand, not only hold up well on the track, but make for decent street tires. Bottom line, I would recommend giving the A032s a shot for the "away game" DE and then try them on the street. Mike

Well, I've been running the yoko 032(old hard compound) for a couple of years worth of occasional DE, auto-x and weekend pleasure and love'm for being able to street'em back n' forth from the track. They're a good compromise for just this reason. A little heavy, a lot noisy, don't pick up alot stones from the road, got a little tread fro those rainy rides home, a steel belt or two to get my dog tired asz back home on sunday night. I, like you, am looking for new tires and quite frankly the yoko are gonna be hard improve on from that "all round" stand point. No one I've talked with can reccomend a better tire. FWIW

I've run the AVS Intermediates on the track and they performed OK. They wore well, and didn't feather or fall apart. I fear, with the different tread design, that the ES-100's would feather and chunk on the track. Personally, I would lean towards the A032 or Toyo RA-1 (DOT legal). I run the RA-1's on a second set of wheels (which I drive to the track), while my AVS Intermediates are on my Fuchs.

Hands down AO32Rs best combo tire for track (wet/dry), street and autocross - used them all last year for track - now using Kuhmos for track and finishing off the Yokos as street tires.

I have ES -100's on my NARP 944, and have had them on the track. No chunking. They're actually wearing very well. I'm happy with them.
