Creaking Brakes?
I first posted in OT by mistake, so reposting here:
So, I was bleeding my brakes today with the car in the air when I noticed that the front end of the car was creaking when I was applying the brake pedal to check that the pressure was good. I couldn't pin down where it was coming from, but the noise was relative to the position and force of the brake pedal. With the bleeder valves open, there was no noise. Is this normal or am I about to die? More stuff: I greased the pins per a suggestion in OT, but no change. Since the noise is tied to brake pressure and only happens when the bleeders are closed, it’s likely the sound is coming from the brake caliper or pad movement.

I've heard a noise like you describe. Given the large forces involved, I've assumed it is from minor flexing from the brake components. I haven't worried about it.

Thanks for the input. I can see the ears on the pads moving a bit during the video, and it also looks like maybe the rotor is flexing a bit as well.
As it was ****ty old me that rebuilt the calipers last, I worry about the inner piston sticking, and the outer piston doing all the work and deflecting the rotor--something like that. I just had a track day a few weeks back and everything felt solid, but it's definitely something to look at over the winter. |
