Cost Effective Chassis Detail - No Dry Ice In Sight - Pics
I bought this car over 20-years ago and never really cleaned the chassis.
Of course, over the years it developed some oil leaks and still had the cosmoline from 1989. A few weeks ago, it was time to address: 1) The oil leaks (oil lines and valve cover gaskets) 2) Replace the CV axles (due to town boots) 3) Install a new lightweight starter (Wosp) and do a deep clean For the cleaning, I opted for Zep Concentrated De-Greaser (the purple stuff), a good stiff bristle scrubbing brush and a good spray bottle. Total cost $30 and a few hours of time. Quite a difference. Here are the before pictures: And after a good scrub:

Sorry - prefer the before pictures. They don't remind me of how bad my engine/tranny look by comparison.
Well done and worth the effort. Surprised at how well it came out. Tell me/us about those blue headers. Hmmm. |

Any pressure washing? Or just a scrub brush?

Thanks guys, yes it is quite an improvement.
Admittingly, it took a few hours over the course of a few evenings, a good way to pass the time as I was waiting for parts to be delivered. The headers were a fun project I did with Brian at Rarly L8 Motorsports back in 2011. I Jet coated them blue, for a little fun, color and conversation piece. @930Rocket - No pressure washing at all, as I did this inside my finished garage, everything was a spray bottle and a good quality stiff bristle scrubbing brush.

I like how you did that braided oil line with adel clamps and that bracket coming off the oil cooler.

Considering that you only spent $30, instead of $1000+, that beats the hell out of a "dry ice cleaning" job!

Nice work!
I would’ve spent $30 worth of brake cleaner in five minutes! |
