Torsion bar problem

My car body sits very low on the front drivers side. Not good. Scraps the driveway and bumps. Tire goes into the wheel well about an inch. So I jacked up the car and turned the torsion bar adjustment up as far as I could. So during the night the body goes up to one inch above the tire and wheel well. . Then after my ride I just took its back down one inch in the fender well!! Tomorrow will be the same, I’ll go out and all will look great. Until I drive it. Any ideas please?

It sounds like your torsion bar is broken, or about to break. I strongly suggest removing it and inspecting it before it breaks, otherwise, you may have a tough time getting the broken end out.

Thanks. I’ll have to take it to the shop. I have been very sick so I can no longer do the work. Other than that the car runs great. Just had speedometer rebuilt, all shift linkage replaced , new starter and motronic set to factory specs.

Weird thing is it corrects itself during the night. Or if I jack up the car and hang the tire. Weird.

Broken springs don't reset themselves overnight. Why not remove the torsion bar to see why it's hanging up?

Could it be a bad strut? Motion gets it up and sitting allows it to “deflate”?

I recall athread once where a guy repeatedly set the ride height on one corner only to have it return to the original position. The debate went on for a while and the suggestion was the torsion bar was failing. I didn't swallow that one............. but end result, that is what was happening. New torsion bar fixed the problem.
Definitely pull the bar. something not right.

So today I went to my Porsche shop that did my top end and he said he thinks my lower front side is caused not by the torsion bar because it goes up during the night then down on a drive. He thinks it is a stuck shock. I made an appointment for him to check it out. I tried but I cannot free it up. So we shall see.

I had a similar behavior with a frozen/sticky shock/strut

Ahoch, how did you un freeze it ? Or did you have it replaced?

What I am doing now is car is up on Jack and letting the tire just hang for a few days. Has dropped down 3 inches but could go right back up while driving. I have an appointment to get it fixed.
