Early paint code guru desperately required
Sorry to "bump" myself up the board, but I'm desperate for an answer to this early paint code related question:
http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/69525-dalmation-blue-real-porsche-color-post846235.html#post846235 Can any paint code gurus help? Cheers Pete |

I've got the authenticity guide in my car and I'll check it tonight but it looks alot like fishcop blue but that's only the PP BBS name. I don't know the official name.

(mystery) blue
No standard blue paint codes for 73. However 73 special order colors include: 326 Glacier Blue, 328 Gulf Blue, 329 Oxford Blue, 334 Metallic Blue, and 335 Gemini Metallic. I know the metallic and gulf blues (not what you have) so if your paint is 73 factory color then you are between Glacier or Oxford Blue.
I haven't seen either of those, sorry. If I were to guess, I would say you likely have Oxford Blue. Hope this helps a little. Shawn.

Tim, Shawn, thanks a million. Keep those mystery blues comin' guys!
While we're here, can someone clear up a mystery for me? Special order paint code 328 Gulf Blue - is that the same as on the light blue and orange works team Gulf Porsche 917? I've read so many conflicting reports... Cheers Pete Last edited by 1970_Pete; 06-17-2003 at 11:24 AM.. |

Here's a picture of the Gemini Blue color. Car is owned by the person I purchased my car from.

I love that Gemini Blue - great colour. Nice garage too!
JMZ - thanks for the link. I didn't find what I needed there, but those colour charts are pretty cool. Seeing the words "Karmin Rot" took me back to my old Cal Look Vee Dub days... :-) |

Don't worry Shawn, I won't blame you....but I will blame the paint guy if he doesn't do his homework
![]() However.....since I last posted....I found this car for sale which looks the same as mine and is said to be "Albertblau"!!! Now the car for sale is European spec, as is mine, but I've never heard of Albertblau before...I'm going insane. The worst bit....I only need enough paint to cover a one inch scratch.... |

Cheers Shawn, I'd been over to the early S registry too tonight and looked at that exact same thread. I'm just really confused now...
What I think I need to do is ring up Porsche Cars Great Britain (the nearest national distributor to me) and say "here's my chassis number, what was the original colour?" My car looks original colour in all the obvious hidden places, so that should get it. I wonder if they'd charge for that? Is that the same deal as a Kardex in the states where they tell you your car's original statsu for 80 bucks or so? Oh, and thanks for your nice words about my colour. Whatever it is. It is pretty unique, certainly where I live. Pete |

As far as I know this is a kardex. The certificates of authenticity now cost $110 in the US. You gent's don't say "bucks" over there, do you?
Shawn.

No, we say quid (for GBP) but I work with a bunch of Californians and also lurk on this board lots, so I've kind of got used to using "bucks"!
That's what I thought a Kardex was - I had one for my old 1970 911T, issued by Porsche Cars GB. They are expensive for what they are, and I'll be gutted if that's the only way I can truly find out my car's original colour, in the absence of any other supporting evidence. The factory repair manual lists:
standard color from 1972 model: 325 albert blue optional colors from 1972 model: 326 icing blue 328 gulf blue 329 sea blue The next page enumerates colors for 1974 models. Hope this helps. Good luck. Randy |

Here in the US, you can call PCNA, give them the VIN and they will read to you the options list as the car was built - not the same as a piece of paper, but it kept the $110 in my pocket.
good luck with the color search
