Hole in dash next to heat controls
What was the hole for next to the heater controls? I'm trying to find a spot for my start/stop button. My other option would be to pull out the cigarette lighter and put it there.

On my 75 it’s for wiper speed, but what’s wrong with your key for start stop?

I think it was for the rear "fog light" on the Euro cars.

The knock-out indentation is in the vinyl covering for the (euro) rear fog lamp switch, the diameter of the plastic locking ring, a smaller pre-drilled hole behind it to snug up the threaded switch shaft onto the metal dash frame. Good spot for a start switch or other gadget. Guess Porsche didn’t throw away old tooling for appearance sake.

it is actually not hole at all- unless you cut it out.. .It is a place where in 1987 porsche placed the auto-heat sensor

Thanks for the additional responses. I'll need to drill the metal panel to fit the switch. I was also considering replacing the cigarette lighter with the switch, but accessing it is going to be a pain. The old unused hole in the dash is accessible from inside the car.

I have the same indent in my ‘76 dash, and posted about it here: https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1171639-dash-instrument-question.html
Plan was to install a switch for my power antenna there, but PO of my car deleted the rear wiper, so that switch may end up for the antenna power. |
