930 brake upgrade: part number question
 

I'm in the process of upgrading my '87 Carrera's brakes to 930 brakes, and I just took delivery of a set of front and rear calipers, supposedly from an '86 930. However, they do not appear to be a set of front and rears, but four identical calipers. Further, the part numbers don't seem to match any kind of 930 caliper I've seen, and they have two different part numbers on each. I've searched the archives for information on part numbers, but I'm not clear on the issue.

Here's what I have. BTW, they look just like every picture of 930 calipers I've ever seen. On the outside face, it says 930.352.541.1R between the fins right below the word "PORSCHE". On the inside face, it says 930.352.542.1R below the word "brembo".

All four calipers use the same size of brake pads, which can't be right for front and rear, can it?? It looks like these calipers are mixed halves, but of what?

So what do I have? And what are the proper part numbers for F&R 930 calipers needed for my car?

930 brakes use same pads both front and back. Actually, only difference is piston-diameter. I believe front pistons are 38mm and rear 30mm...everything else is same. So it's probably nothing wrong with them.

The #s given correspond to superseded spring plates.(everyone seems to make that mistake)

The f/r 930 calipers are the same except for the bleed position - front is leading mount, rears are trailing mount and pistons - fronts are 38mm, rears are 30mm.

The same pad is used f/r.

When used at the rear of a 911 the caliper will need to be machined for 3" leading mount and have the bleeds swapped for use as leading mount.

Hey Will, I'm also putting the 930 brakes on my 87. The calipers I have are from an 89 and have the same numbers as on your calipers. As stated above, the only difference I could find is in the piston size between the front and rear.
My rear calipers are on their way back from VCI and I plan to start removing and installing next week so there may be a few posts from me on this tipic. Hopefully it's as easy as it sounds.

Thanks, guys! I've verified that all is well; I've got the right calipers. The rears have already been machined for Carrera trailing arms. I'll be ordering all of the other necessary goodies, including Brembo rotors & custom hats for the front, from Steve Weiner at Rennsport Systems. This should be fun. Don, let's stay in touch on this. I did this upgrade last spring with some of the hardware from VCI. If you know how to change pads and rotors, it a no brainer. The master cylinder was a little tight to get at but still not hard. The braking is great now. The pedal is high and hard.
