Are these really the same part?
 
I've heard that these are indeed the same part. As you can tell, the top of each part is different. So, does that mean I need to splice the orignal line, since the connectors are different (one round and one flat)? The part in the bag is # 930 606 117 00, the other part is number???

Try using an Ohm meter to check the resistance at different temperature(pot of water off the bottom) against book specs with a thermometer in the water. Sometimes they change the connectors/color for no other reason other than to sell the same thermoresister for multiple cars.

Is it recommended to splice this wire to get the newer flat fitting to work? I guess I could hammer it out a bit to flatten it and then try to connect it?
