New Blaupunkt Black Radio Avail 2018

This new plain black Blaupunkt radio is supposedly available this year — seems to feature all the latest stuff onboard, 4 x 50 watt / USB / BT etc and would look good in an older cars dash.

Here’s the article :

Yup ... the more I look at it the more I like it too — lots of styling cues from the 80’s

Perfect if there was a CD player integrated.

Would the lack of CD be of any consequence?
I like the way the the “cassette door area” seems to hideaway I put for : SD / USB / AUX

I actually like the idea of just having a book of CDs like back in the day. Leave one CD in and really get to know it. Don’t have to mess with phones/SD cards etc. Too many choices can be annoying

CDs are as obsolete as a rotary dial phone. It's time to learn to use a streaming music service. The entire catalog of music is already on your phone. If you are still stuck in the 20 year old mp3 era, then buy a $10 USB drive and stick all your files on there.

I have one in my office. Works fantastic even if dialling might be a little slow.

And all my CDs are in boxes in the basement; the vinyl is in a more accessible location but not terribly useable in the 911...

I disagree, I’m back on CDs- we’ll sort of, I do download them to my iPod, but with no compression.

Streaming and other digital services generally have much lower sound quality, which might not make a difference on earbuds or a cheap system, but on a good system there is a difference.

interesting -- looks like a homage to the original sqr-46 bremen https://www.radiomuseum.org/r/blaupunkt_bremen_sqr_46_7646898010.html

were these stock/available on 911s of the vintage?

Also, as tor west's comments, I agree that lossy compression can significantly degrade sound quality and have transferred all of my cds to the lossless flac format. Looks like the new bremen may only support mp3 or wma files -- not flac or apple lossless. hopefully it will support lossless wma - also excited that it has preamp (line) outputs

I totally get that. I’ll reiterate what I said in another thread: I have an iPhone X and I pair it with everything in my other cars. I am no Luddite. Pretty sure I’m as connected as you can get. I listen daily with Apple Music and podcasts on my phone. But for this one car, I’d like a CD player that looks exactly like that new Blaupunkt but with CD capability. Include BT or not, I don’t care. I like the idea of choosing a bunch of CDs before leaving on a road trip and then having a limited set of choices. Yep, I’m weird

with this head unit, you could achieve ALMOST the same result by putting that "limited set of choices" onto a usb stick or sd card and forego bluetooth streaming from your phone . . .

Good point. Although remember back in the day when you’d leave a CD in the stereo and listen to it over and over and really get to know the album? I want that again. I suppose I could just buy a bunch of SD cards and copy individual albums onto them. But that seems like a lot of work and I’m pretty lazy

CD is still better quality than all of the non-lossless streaming services.
