Add or delete deco?

Ahoy,

I have a '73 911t with the S appearance package that I'm about to restore. The previous owner deleted the deco trim from the front bumper and rockers but left it on the rear bumpers (I'm missing the bumper guards though). My original plan was to buy a "R" style 1-piece
fiberglass rear bumper and eliminate the rest of the deco. I do like the deco on these early cars though and lately have been considering adding the S deco back to the front bumpers and rockers and buying replacement rubber for the existing rears (along with chrome/rubber rear bumper guards).

So whatdyathink...should I add the missing deco or eliminate the rear?

I like the bump strip on the front.

I originally preferred the "clean" look, but the full S deco kit has definitely grown on me, the "belt line" breaks them up in just the right way, and the anodized aluminum and chrome sugar scoops give them just enough "bling." I'm leaning to adding the missing deco, would be easier than matching paint and painting anyway.

Stock - add it
Hot rod or outlaw - delete

Well it's definitely going to be an "outlaw" to a certain extent...getting the RS treatment on the interior (carpet, seats, door cards) with the Rennline lower dash delete/backdate kit and a perlon headliner. The original motor is getting a spicy rebuild with Wossner 10:1 pistons, dc30 cams, and ITBs/COP. The exterior is basically the last undecided element. I'm actually considering a rally inspired build, and if I go that route it will definitely get the deco, it goes great with the OE chrome bumper bars and roof rack.

I like the deco, but not the bumperettes. If you’re torn, there are also deco stickers for the RS lightweight effect. I do like the contrast of the black.

I agree on the bumperettes on the front (unless it's a rally build), they look good on the rear though (chrome not rubber). The R bumper that incorporates them into one piece is also a great look. If I delete the rears the deco stickers may be an option, the black contrast line definitely looks good.

Giggidy, Giggidy...keep sending me porn like that and I just might do it. ;) That can't be a real S/T at that price but a really nice tribute! I'm really tempted to go that route, really love the idea of building the rally inspired car you could have ordered from the factory (almost). Full S deco with chrome/rubber bumperettes, front and rear bumper bars, horn grill fogs, Leitz roof rack, OE rear mud flaps...add some 1000 Lakes Bilsteins, dash rally clocks, and a set of gravel tires and you have a classy rally inspired build even the purist should appreciate.

Was hesitant to send your way, but have been in the garage and between the stouts, fuel and oil fumes thought you might enjoy.

Although I am an 80's 928, 944 and the two 911s owner, I do like the simplicity, yet, "middle ground" of the green and yellow from your posts...

I am a bit envious of the chrome associated with certain Porsche years...

All the best!

Now you gotta rub it in with the stouts...I currently live in Nicaragua and there is definitely a stout shortage here;)

The funny thing is this wasn't even a question when I thought the car was light yellow, planned on doing an S/T rally tribute, switching to an R fiberglass rear bumper and painting it and the front viper green, with viper green decals and painted Fuchs. I've always loved that classic and quirky RS paint scheme, and thought it would look great on a rally inspired build. Then I figured out the car is actually champagne yellow, killing the historic background of the paint scheme, and making me less interested in modifying a rare original color for '73. Now that I've found out Porsche had all of these OE available rally inspired parts, I've been trying to talk myself back into the rally build, just sticking with the champagne throughout and accenting it with these chrome extras and mud flaps. I think the chrome and anodized aluminum would definitely make this shade of yellow pop.

Chrome definitely has its place in the right era, this '73 definitely being one of them. I've got a '71 sea foam Chevy c30 covered in chrome inside and out and it definitely looks the part of an early 70s vehicle. That's why I love this era...the early 70s were so funky and you can (and should) definitely see that in the cars of the era.

No shortage of chrome on my c30 lol...
