Speedo isn’t working — not sure if cable or gear. Wobbly at transmission

Car is a ‘68. I sent the speedometer off to John Bell to have him service it, but it turns out it actually works (wasn’t in the car — speedo or odo)

I crawled under it tonight to have a look as best I could, since I don’t have it up in h ty e air yet. The cable is connected to the transmission, but it’s really wobbly at it. Or I should say, the gear portion is pretty wobbly at the transmission. Video below.

I’m not sure if that’s typical or not, but I suspect it isn’t. It’s also dripping something in that general area, so I need to get it in the air and investigate.

Can anything be learned from this condition? Is this normal? Trying to decide if I should replace the cable or the gear, or both.

Right, got the car up on a lift today. The underside is pretty wet, and I suspect it might have something to do with this. The angle drive in the transmission is loose, and clearly not a tight fit. What am I looking at here? When you wiggle the drive itself, the receiving threads seem to move with it. Is there a sleeve involved here or something? Is the drive not indexing properly or something?

Only way I can see to tighten this down is to somehow support the transmission, take down the cross support, and then access the angle drive. I can’t tell if that’s where all this oil/wet stuff is coming from underneath (maybe blowing back), but I think this must be a good starting point.

I've got the new angle drive and cable sitting here, from our host. Haven't installed those yet as the motor is coming out soon anyway. It's one of three things, the drive inside the transmission, the angle drive or the cable. I'm hoping one of the latter two. My cable spins freely at the speedo end if that helps.

Edit, get a new drive boot if you order the other two.

I’m more concerned about the angle drive wobbling like it is in the transmission. The way it’s sitting there doesn’t seem right.
