SSI installation question - SC 3.0

Backdating the exhaust on my 3.0 and just received a new set of SSI exchangers. The new exchangers have tabs near the rear where I believe earlier cars had studs to keep them from rattling. My 3.0 doesn’t have studs there (circled in red in attached pic). Do I need to drill/tap the block to add a stud here or run them without that attachment? Tried to do a search but wasn’t able to find this particular question addressed anywhere. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1743941116.jpg

On my SC case (1980, 930/09) there were threads in place to fit the early style SSI`s. Probably changed over the years. The additional mounting points sure help to stabilize the whole system but you can probably go without. If you have a chance to drill and cut threads I would do so.

Thanks Guenter. Mine is a ‘82. Since I’ve got the motor out I’ll drill and cut threads. I figured it would be better for the extra support but just wanted to check for input before I tighten everything up.

On my 2.7, one of the tabs fit perfect and I had to modify the other tab to put a step into it to line up with the stud properly. Point is, I don't know that they fit but one engine perfectly and a lot of people don't use the tabs or even have bent them out of the way. The SSI should be rock solid as is, I wouldn't worry about tapping and adding a stud/nut/bolt there.

I remember when I installed them on my 81 SC, and I drilled and tapped for bolts. Don’t drill too deep!

Thanks all for the input. I went ahead and drilled and tapped for bolts. Maybe it’s not necessary but I like the idea of an extra contact point limiting movement.
