Steering wheel mystery!

My ‘82 SC has a late ‘80’s stock Carrera wheel, which fits perfectly. When I went to swap in a nice Momo wheel with the correct L231 hub, it won’t fit! Too tight! I have tried several other hubs, to no avail, all too small. I know the mechanic who has cared for this car for the last 30+ years and he swears that the steering shaft has never been replaced. Any ideas??

Most of those adapters are hard to get on and harder to get off. Normal.

Yes, just be certain the splines are lined up properly.

The Momo steering wheel adapters are course and cheap. I had one on my E46 that was so tight, I cracked it doing something. The replacement slid right on.
