New Dansk fuel tank, paint dissolves with brake cleaner

Looks great, was having second thoughts about spraying epoxy primer and then wurth stoneguard grey.

Wiped bottom of tank with cheap Walmart brake cleaner.
Paint instantly a gooey mess

So disappointing.

Hopefully they didn't bother to paint the inside?

Gotta flush the inside thoroughly! Trust me. Potential fuel pump seizure issue.

No paint on the inside, but the filler neck is painted, and the port of the level sender. Both would be wet with gasoline and dissolve the paint over time. Does not seem a particularly safe way to deliver this product.
No primer under the black paint, just aluminized steel.

Acetone takes it right off, so it's about as durable as fingernail polish.

Ok, don't believe me. Read the instructions that came with the tank.

I sprayed the bottom of mine with Wurth stone guard after cleaning with soap and water and flushing the tank many times to avoid the well documented debris issues. I did not paint the trunk side of the tank and found that it has had no issues with some fuel spills, but paint is very thin and likely just put on to prevent corrosion in transport. I would paint it if I did it again.

John,
I do believe you, I will clean the inside before this goes in the car.
I am just hyper focused on getting the outside of this thing stripped down. Was expecting to de-gloss the existing paint and spray on epoxy primer, but instead used about half a gallon of acetone and 3 hours to remove what amounts to black nail polish.

A new Dansk tank is in my near future. Consequently I have yet to read the included internal cleaning instructions. I was anticipating using Berryman-12 Chemtool fuel injection cleaner and then flushing with soap and water. Are the internal cleaning instructions specific? Is there an ideal internal cleaning process experienced users have found successful? Thanks.

I filled it up twice with soapy water and let it drain, then turned it upside down on panel stands and flushed it with a high pressure hose from top and bottom. I did not use any solvents. It seems to have been adequate.

I installed one here a few years back. Inside was clean so no issue there. What I did not do and wish I had was coat the bottom with, your choice of whatever. It's also never had anything but non ethanol in it. Someone here or Early911S was worried about the fender fill piece. Consensus was Cerrakote if anything.
