One more Question...

So I just put my engine back in, 82' SC Targa, and went to crank it and Fuel Pump come on but nothing in crank mode..
Some ideas where to look?
I checked the large plugs, one left side before blower fan by firewall, In.
One right by the left rear corner, under back plastic cover, that's in and all the plugs in that area are connected.

I've owned the car for over 30 years and never had a no crank problem, I'm not sure where the starter relay is?

One thing I wasn't 100% sure on, went by the bends in the wire, is where the 2 smaller wires went on the starter.

Thanks,
-Bill

there is no relay in the starter system, the yellow (terminal 50) wire goes straight from the ignition switch tot he starter solenoid. the other should pick up voltage from when the starter is engaged to power to the cold start valve. Based on your last statement above I would guess you have these two wires swapped.

Edit: Just to follow up with additional data:
the yellow (50) terminal should be the one at the top (12:00) position where the yellow wire attaches.
the 15a terminal will be the one at 6:00 where the yellow/blue wire should attach and power the cold start valve.

Thanks, I will check this out tomorrow..
Out of curiosity, If I had the wires backwards and turned the key I would be sending 12v into the cold start valve lug. would this burn out something?

Of the 2 plug wires the yellow goes to the top pin and the blue stripe to the bottom pin.
The fuel pump isn’t supposed to come on until your in crank mode, if it does, your connectors on the airflow sensor and cold start injector are reversed on the front of the injection, out of sight.

as Bruce said--check your starter connectors..
here is a pic of the safety bosh plug behind the sensor plate -if your f.pump is on it could also be disconnected-black arrow-the other one is 7th injector for cold start

Yes, I am aware of the plug behind the Air Meter Box. Mine has been unplugged for the 30 years I owned the car. It make it so the fuel pump runs when ever the key is on, helps build up pressure. Vs. Plugged in there needs to be some air input to lift the flap which makes the pump goes on..
It's been unplugged so long I don't even remember what the issue was, but my car always started with like 1/2 a turn..
Thanks for all the info..

yes it is unplugged due to the broken sensor male plug.It would ground the pump pump and it would not run as Bruce said above the pump will run only when you go over the spring ...with the key.
Check you starter wires and ground from transmission to body...

Got it going yesterday, The wiring was on correct, thicker yellow wire was on the top lug. Problem was it was redicusly loose, I pinched it tight with a needle nose and got a nice snug fit. Now the car starts and runs mint.. A lot of work went into this: All new rubber parts, O-Rings everywhere, injector sleeves, hoses, new main oil seal, gaskets, clutch plate.. Etc.

Thanks for all the helpful comments..
