Odd Door Lock Electrical Issue

Here's the scenario -

Battery connected, car unlocked. I pull the door latch to open the door and the door locks as if I'd hit the power door lock button in the console.

I can reach in through the window and turn the door lock knob to unlock, pull the latch again, door locks again.

The only way this opens is if I use the key to unlock it, hold the key in the unlock position then pull the latch.

I haven't torn into the door yet, but my gut is leaning towards a short to ground somewhere in the power lock or door latch. Does this sound like the right direction to start? I'm also dealing with a no-start situation that just cropped up but that's a different conversation.

Thoughts are appreciated.

it sounds like the micro-switch on the door cylinder since it only works when you turn the key.
The switches ground the control wire in either direction to lock or unlock the doors.

You can test the switches from the connector that runs to the lock control module, but it is tricky to get off the module. The module is fragile and the connector is on pretty tight. (that is a warning)
The module is on the passenger’s side in the rear of the frunk, in front of the antenna booster for the radio (if you have one). The controller comes off with a 10mm nut and lock washer. (at least on mine)

If you opt to try testing from the connector in lieu of pulling your door(s) apart, get a DMM that has a continuity feature (low ohms = beep!) and this may help. #’s are pins on the connector from the wiring harness to the door controller. You can get the DMM pins into the connector to take readings as you walk around the car.

Passenger Side:
5 - 7 is CCW. This should give you a nice beep as long as you turn the key
5 - 9 is CW. “ "

Driver's Side:
5 - 7 is CW (opposite side, opposite rotation). a nice beep as above.
5 - 9 is CCW. Nice long beep as above.

Central switch should give a short beep when you push it. (pins 11 & 12)

These pins are fed from the doors harnesses, so if the switches aren’t behaving you will know which switch in which door before you go digging.
