one side turn signals work and other side doesn't

Need help diagnosing:
-Right side turn signal works normal, including dash gauge indicator arrow
-left side turn signals don't work, both arrows on dash gauge blink dimly at the same time, can hear clicking but neither front nor rear external blinkers work. I know bulbs are ok. I believe this happened once before and it fixed itself after a while.

Which model year is this?

here are a couple of things that might help:
* With the no ignition key, what happens if you switch your indicator stalk to the left? The bulbs should come on and not blink. (this is testing the switch and basic wiring out to the housings)

* What happens when you turn on your hazards? (also testing your column switch).

If the hazards work properly that would clear the blinker unit, the wiring to the housings and the bulbs. At that point your column switch is suspect I think. It is interesting that front and rear are affected at the same time, you’re probably looking for something they have in common.

Read this thread, good info here that might prove helpful.

If the problem fixed itself then I’d suspect loose/tarnished ground OR the bulb filament is broken but not separated completely and only making contact when the bulb is jarred thereby “fixing” itself.
Clean up with a brass brush the the grounds and sockets. Try brand new bulbs if you haven’t already, they do “wear” out over the decades.
In previous posts, some say the flasher module could use a cleaning too.

its a 1981 930.
Fuses are ok
Seems the hazzard is also not working. Probably the relay, but it's weird that one side blinkers work and the other doesn't.

My RT front turn indicator only “flashes” when I have my headlights on, all other lights (hazards, parking indicators, turn signals, etc.) work as they are supposed to.

Who knows why, but I’m going to dive into it soon enough. Been reading a lot of threads about it, hence my referring you to the thread I linked above.

Regardless, good luck with it.

Correction!: The hazards work, but only on the right side. When the car is off and I turn the signals to either direction, the outside blinkers on that side come on, but don't blink, so I know the bulbs are ok, and I think this behavior is normal with car off. I guess I will go ahead and replace the relay to see what happens.
