Apparently the whale tail will just be too heavy to allow for one strut to hold up the deck lid. Heavy duty struts will really not be any stronger per the host. So, there is a kit that somehow either doubles up the strut on one side, or adds a strut bracket to the right side, ANYBODY hEAR OF THIS? and WHAT DO YOU ALL DO when you have ths similar problem??

The only correct resolution is to add another strut to the right side hinge. To double up on the left hinge puts too much tension on the left side and twists the deck lid.

I'm not aware of any "kits". I've seen where some people acquire the correct OEM hinge (I believe it's a 930 part) and the little bracket that attaches to the underside of the package tray. Other have fabricated the parts themselves with varying levels of success

I asked our host about it, it is still in their on-line catalog but they no longer have it I was told, Performance Products does carry it in their catalog though.

I just talked to Bart I think it was at Performance and he showed me their dual shock that mounts to the left side. Over time the warp can occur and he recommended to somehow create a mount for the right side. So I'll look into that I think. Maybe I'll just continue to use the big white PVC pipe, but I can paint it black and add aporche decal...
haha

For the cost of struts that will wear out, I'd use the Seine Systems Ultimate Strut and be done with it.
![]() I use one for my hood, when I replace the tail I'll use one back there.

haha yeah, that is what i meant.
The Seine system seems good though all it really is is a prop. So then this brings me to the dilemma that in order for the lid to lift when i pull the door lift thing what do i use ?? because now it just is not working. so I need either a spring on each bump stop of the lid, so that it lifts when i pull the door lift thing and then stick in that bar. right?

in my opinion, in the long run, a hood strut will cause your fiberglass lid to crack. i damaged a nice carrera lid like that. i think it is the cantilever load you put on it, when you push it down to close it. i will use a strut. as a matter of fact i have one now, installed, awaiting the duty of holding up my duck. it is ho-made from a heim joint, and a carbon fiber arrow shaft.

I have a similar problem, when I pull the rear deck release the lid does not pop up. My lid stays up with the current one strut back there (I'll probably find a way to add a second to prevent warping the hinges) but will that create enough lift to pop open the lid when the release is pulled?

It is very simple to add a shock to the passenger's side.
You can also paint the bracket to match the hinge for a more aesthetic look.

The hood latching mechanism should pop the deck lid (front hood too) after pulling the release.
There's a spring on the deck lid part of the mechanism; part of the male plunger that is trapped to keep the deck lid closed. When the release is pulled, the spring should expand and push the deck lid upward slightly. Perhaps the spring isn't compressed enough when the deck lid is closed. Maybe the spring is broken? Can you post any pics? Sherwood |

Maybe I need to adjust the spring. I was not sure if the spring was to push the lid up when opened or just to dampen the impact on closure, I have seen some cars that when you pull the release the deck lid pops all the way open to the fully up position.

"...I have seen some cars that when you pull the release the deck lid pops all the way open to the fully up position."
The spring lifts the hood slightly when it's released; the gas strut is doing most of the effort after that. Your example seems too agressive. Someone getting a close up view of the rear deck could receive a reverse face plant. An immovable object directly above it could inflict some paint damage. You never see the front hood do that. In many cases, the front gas struts are dormant, even failing to hold the hood up like they're supposed to. Something happened between the time they engineered the lift for the rear deck lid and the lift for the front hood. Sherwood |

I need to check my springs too.

It was suggested (in the thread I posted a link to) that the decklid stops be adjusted to help with opening sufficiently.
Another suggestion was to replace the latch spring with an HD unit. It looks as if the spring can be adjusted out for more tension. Has anyone tried? ![]()
