Brake Fluid Reservoir Replacement: Tip needed
 

Is it possible to replace a brake fluid reservoir and its hoses(black hoses) without needing a full brake fluid flush afterward? My idea is to siphon out fluid down to the hose connection, swap the reservoir and hose, then refill—hoping any air introduced will just rise back up.

I’m asking because I just finished a full brake overhaul and bleeding the system was a nightmare.

Also, here’s the leaking hose that stripped some paint—currently working on touching that up.

Any tips would be much appreciated. Thanks!

I’m no expert, but what you propose seems reasonable and “should” work.

Maybe start the refill process very slowly and lightly tap the reservoir to vibrate any air bubbles up out of the hoses at the beginning?

You'll be fine. Suck out all of the brake fluid from the reservoir using a turkey baster or fluid extractor, put some rags around the lines to catch the rest, then replace the reservoir. No need to re-bleed the brakes or tap on the lines. Just fill the new reservoir with fluid.

Same as above comments, certainly don’t allow air bubbles to form. I did same, easy swap w/o re-bleed.
Prep the trunk ! No short cuts if you value your exterior paint.

Rags everywhere, cover everything so no drips go flying when pulling off stubborn hoses.
I wrapped rags around hoses and loosened up before removing, had a small box with rags in it to act as a drip tray catch under the reservoir to carry it out and away from any painted surfaces including any BF that may have dribble onto shirt sleeves.

Oh - make sure to get proper hose lines for brakes - easy for a distracted local big box parts clerk to randomly provide the wrong type. I once specifically asked for fuel line and received vac line.

Brake fluid is the enemy. I have plastic covers on my fenders currently.

Those hoses are NLA from Porsche but 914 rubber has them for anyone that is looking.

I’m leaning towards a new reservoir while I’m in there.

What's wrong with the reservoir ?

One black hose is leaking
