Need to buy turn signal bulbs locally.
 

I need to buy front and rear turn signal bulbs for my 81 930. Is there an Autozone equivalent or something I can buy locally? Would be open to LED's as well as long as they are directly swappable.

1156 (single filament) or 1157 (dual filament) should do the trick. They can be an any FLAPS.

I notice the little protrusions that hold the bulb in the socket are different between the 1156 and 1157. 1156 has them the same height from the base of the bulb, while the 1157 has one higher than the other. I say this because the previous owner I guess had put in an 1156 equivalent and it seems to not fit as tightly in the socket.

Those protrusions ensure the bulb is installed only one way so the brake and taillight filaments are in the right location in the socket. Plus 1156 bulbs are single filament while the 57's are dual. A 1156 in a dual socket may light up but not as a tail and brake light function.

The sockets wear and can be loose. I put foil and toothpicks around the base to tighten them up.

If you look in the sockets you will see either 1 (takes a 1156) or 2 (takes a 1157) metal strips that contact the terminal(s) in the bulb base. Sometimes they get flat. You can gently pull them up to improve contact.

you might not be able to put a 1157 into an 1156 socket, but you can definitely put a 1156 into a 1157 loosely. I couldn't get the 1157 into my rear turn signal but the 1156 is way too loose. The front seems to take 1157. I'm wondering if they should be the same.

I’m surprised that a auto parts store doesn’t sell them. Here is the euro numbers.

Take a closer look inside the sockets and make sure they’re not damaged.
Notably are the offset of the bulb base posts which if not positioned correctly can cause damage.

Btw, I recently replaced my Ft/Rr turn signals and dash signal indicators to LEDs from Carmagic and had no problems although needed proper flasher so dash directional indicator operated correctly.

Owners manual calls for #1073 front and #1034 rear. Hella, Osram, Sylvanis, Phillips, GE all have equivalent number of basically the 1156 & 1157.
