Ignition Switch Replacement

My 1974 911yignition switch with steering lock is gone. Car won't start. The factory replacement runs 900-1000.00 for a new one. It will run the fuel pump but will not connect to send current to starter. I removed the assembly and replaced the electrical portion from Pelican Parts. Without connecting to the tumbler lock assembly, the car will now start and run with a simple twist to the last position with a screwdriver. By no means is this a complete, original parts 911 but its mine which I have owned since 2001
it runs great and is fun to drive. My question is can an early 911/912 bullet ignition switch with key be substituted. I don't need the steering lock as I never leave it anywhere. I take it for a drive then back to my garage.

Why not just reassemble the electrical portion to the tumbler lock assembly and put it back in the dash? If the steering column lock is problematic you should be able to hold it in the unlocked position and drill a hole to pin it that way.

The tumbler for the key is shot. Don't see a way to replace just the tumbler as it appears to be pressed in.

I assume that it is similar to the ignition in my 84 (which I think it is as I see part number 911-613-904-00 in both catalogs). If so you can definitely disassemble them and rekey them. when I got my car the original ignition/lock had been replaced so it was using a different key than the doors, trunk, glovebox... I pulled the ignition and rekeyed it to match all the other original lock cylinders. It has been a few years, so can't remember all the details, but if you need help you can send me some detailed pics and see if that will job my memory. PM me for my direct contact info if you like.
