New to me 86 911 coupe

I picked up this 86 Coupe last week.

I traded by 64 Corvette on it.

Looking for some parts.

It was setup as a track car and I'm trying to get it back to stock.

Need the following

- Ash tray holder
- Center console
- Door panels / handles- Do not like RS style door cards... I don't get them.
- Rear seat locks
- Rear set belts
- Glove Box lock

Nice car!

You can keep an eye out for the parts you want on the classified section hetmre, eBay and aftermarket suppliers are also options. But you probably knew that already. :-)

Good looking car. after talking with you the other day and you saying it was previously a track I'm pleasantly surprised (for your sake) as to how much of the interior is still intact. I feared it was bare floors and and front seat only. I think you are off to a great start.

Congrats on the new car, and welcome to Pelican! Some thoughts on the missing parts:

Ashtrays turn up on the classifieds. It should just slip into position, assuming someone didn't totally rip it out.

Center consoles on the classifieds too, although there are different types. Do you have AC? Can't tell from your photo - does your dash have a hazard light button? I believe all 1986 coupes have a center console with the hazard light button, rear defrost button, a fader for the stereo, and two AC knobs.

Door cards - I bet you can easily find someone willing to trade stock door cards for your RS cards. Classifieds again.

Rear seats - You are missing a lot back there. The locking pins for the rear seats were not used in 1986, they started in 1987. Rear seats were held up by leather straps that snapped onto the rear deck. Check the back of your seats for the straps. You are missing the entire rear deck with speakers. You can't easily add the locking pins - requires welding in a center piece to receive the pins.

Seat belts - A 1986 should have mounting points for 3-point belts on the back deck, but the cars came with just lap belts. Lap belts turn up often on the classifieds, 3-point belts are rare. You will need to modify the rear deck (when you get one), unless you can find a rear deck from a 1987-1989. They came with the 3-point belts. You can get new 3-point belt kits from someplace like Seatbelt Planet.

Glove box lock - Classifieds

To see what your car should have, go to BAT and view the auctions for 1986 Carreras. Lots of photos there.

Good luck getting it back together!

Mark

I love my 72 and 81SC but it'd be hard giving up a C2 for either! Good looking cars, welcome.

I have an 86 with the Red locking pins in my back seats no straps....

Not sure about the 3 point - I haven't seen any mounting for them - but I haven't looked either .... nobody sits back there so it doesn't really matter ....

Drive a C2, you won't have much problem after that. Look cool, but pretty much suck to drive.

I am glad to see someone else does not get the RS door cards. They don't make much sense to me for a driver. I also know what you mean about the early vettes. I had a beautiful 61 and it was easily the worst car I have ever driven. Good restomod canidate with modern suspension, but dangerous stock.

Thanks for the info..

I'm quickly figuring out there are little changes from year to year..

85 to 86 they went from a cone shaped glove box latch to a round one.

I have been looking at BAT an other auctions.. the pictures and detail are great.

I probably won't add the AC back, but will like to have heat one day... that looks like a chore since I have headers.

That's valid. I modify all of my cars, but they are great to look at!

Both nice cars. Not sure I would have traded the '64, but nonetheless congratulations. Plenty parts on classifieds to get you started here.

Yeah, I wasn't 100% sure about this, since I think cabs had them earlier too. Seems like a mix out there. Maybe late 1986 builds had the pins?

Easy enough to check. See if there are straps in the back of the seats, and post a good photo of the center seat hinge.

Mark

Nice.
Welcome to the forum.
I do like the center console delete though.

Should be lots of those parts in the classifieds but don't get scammed !

Also note the 964 panels, center console aren't the same.

don't forget to keep an eye on used Ebay parts. there's a bunch on there also. ive grabbed a few from there recently and have been happy (used glove box and used shifter linkage).

@pmax

964 panels will not work in an 86, I know 993s won't but the 964s look really close?

^^^ Don't know.

Porsche publishes the parts list , perhaps that will show if they fit.

Have a look here.

Looks like the wheels are on back to front. Check which width wheels are mounted in the front vs back. Don't solely rely on tire size
