Which shifter to rebuild 86 911 915 to 930 tranny
Looking for advise on which shifter I should use and rebuild or would you recommend an
aftermarket shifter. My interior was a fire damaged car. I have been re-wiring everything and it is coming along. I'm working on the shifter. The car had the option of a shortened shift lever travel (241). The car was a 915 tranny that did not come with the car when I purchased it. I had a 930 tranny shortened to work in my application. I have attached some photos of a shifter I purchased and the one that came with the car. Rebuild the one that came with the car or the non shortened one or get a new aftermarket shifter. And I believe the shifter will work with the 930 tranny? Thank you.

The shifter on the left is a 930 4-speed shifter. You can use that if you want.
The shifter on the right (with the springs and lockout) is a 915 shifter. Used with the 930, it would have very long throw (it would actually run out of travel) due to the difference in the internal travel of the 930 gearbox. I recommend the JWest 930 4-speed shifter (I'm biased, of course). |

James, thanks for the info. What would be the best options for your 930 4-speed kit. There seems to be some options. Perhaps a PM would be great with a link.

Our 930 shifter comes with new linkage items under the shifter (rod cup and bushing bracket with bushing), so the only thing else to worry about is the coupler, and any type without slop will be fine. I think it is poor taste to push links to my website in Pelican's "living room," so here is a link to my shifter in our host's catalog: https://www.pelicanparts.com/More_Info/JWSTRS930EXBK.htm?pn=JWST-RS930-EX-BK&SVSVSI=911M |
