What is this thing for?
After dropping the engine for oil and fuel leak repairs I found this 'device' that I'm unable to find what is for..
![]() All the books I have do not say what that is for, the part numbers are 911.108.021.02 for the metalic piece and 253.260.180 for the rubber piece. It is connected to the airbox and the rubber piece (in my case) has a cut at the bottom (probably broken). Any ideas what that is for? curious minds need to know... regards

It's the drip from under the airbox. It should be connected with a hose to the nipple under the air sensor plate, and there should be a rubber hose running from it to the back of the car for draining. It is really not necessary unless you happen to overfill you oil tank. If you remove it, plug the nipple under the airbox, then make sure you don't overfill you oil tank. Check the airbox on a regular basis and wipe off the bottom as needed.
I've never taken on apart, but my guess is that it works to keep dirty air out of your airbox and allows oil out, much like a check valve. Or drip dump valve/vessel. |

ah... the infamous "blewie" tube. That's what I've always heard it referred to.
Souk's absolutely right on all accounts. It allows oil to drip out, but seals shut under hard acceleration. If you ever wonder where that oil leak is on the right frontside of the engine is... this is a likely suspect. Another reason to run on the lower mark on your dipstick. Too many bad things when you overfill.
