New Dansk Fuel Tank WITH Strainer/filter!

I must say I'm pretty happy with my new Dansk tank purchase. I was trying to get my old one clean, but after seeing this thread,

https://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/1135418-911-fuel-tank.html

I decided to not waste any more time or effort on the old tank and just try my luck with a new one.

I hoped I was able to source a new tank with the strainer/ filter and not get one with just the plug. Especially after reading some of the "hit or miss" orders received by some fellow Pelican members. Once I stumbled on to a certain website, I found a description for the 85 ltr tank and it stated the tank needed the strainer and o-ring gasket. That was the sign I needed. I pulled the trigger at $397.73 (!) $11.97 shipping and it arrived today.

The part number and description on the box were wrong. I was a little worried. Even the description on the sticker stated "no strainer", however the packing slip was the correct part number ending in "05". The tank was wrapped in plastic and even had white packing foam to protect it during shipping. It even came with the filter.

Now I just want to make sure I get it cleaned out well. Any advice on what to use? Mineral spirits, diesel fuel, WD-40, Marvels Mystery Oil? I've seen a lot of suggestions over the last few years?

Pretty awesome!

That's a great find for your 83 SC. From the last foto you posted, it looks like the tank even has that plastic "swirl pot" thingy just inside of the strainer bolt opening???

My 83 SC does have some signs of rust inside from sitting in the garage for past ~ 3 years. I'm hoping it is still OK. But good to know a new like/equal tank is offered now.

It does have the swirl pot inside. Its grey in color. Thats the new perk with these Dansk tanks (finally!).

I actually posted the incorrect link above. Here is the correct one that shows a better view of the new swirl pot from the fuel level opening.

What does the strainer in an SC fuel tank do?

Sorry for the delay in replying.

You know I think when I tried to mention the name before it got redacted and showed up as "P*******k" or something like that.

I believe if you search Part Number: 67-08064338 it should pop up.

It specifies that you need the strainer/ filter (which I had already purchased from Pelican when I was planning on cleaning my original tank out ) but, as stated, it actually came with it!

Is this the correct Dansk tank from Pelican? Trying to make sure I get the updated one with the strainer.

Judging by the picture, I would say "no" as it has the black "plug" where the strainer would screw in. It also doesn't mention anything about a strainer/ gasket etc being required or included like the description for mine. I would absolutely talk to someone that can have somebody open a box and verify the one they grab for you. Not sure if that's possible.

Also, as I was saying above, and can be seen in the pics, the part number and description on the box I received were wrong. Looks like maybe the new batch were using up the old boxes. I'm not sure but that's my guess.

Anyone else ever purchase the correct one and can provide/verify the right part number for the Dansk tank with the pot & strainer?

In an earlier post, I wrote -

I got it from Pelican and was glad to have someone to talk to that knew the difference between the tanks.

It’s Part #: 1615600200-INT

Here’s a link to it on the PP site. I still recommend talking to someone because even Pelican lists two tanks, one with the Porsche number and one with the Dansk number which are ostensibly the same thing, but might not really be.

Thank you for posting this new tank option, I installed the “no swirl pot or baffling” Dansk fuel tank option on my track 911 in 2021 and suffered myriad costly challenges.

First, wasting many hours sourcing the correct parts to fit an external filter strainer to protect the pump.

Second, and this was very costly, destroyed my fuel pump, fuel pressure regulator ($750) and fuel damper($750) by failing to get all the sealant out of the tank.

Third, fuel starvation on track despite carrying a heavier fuel load both with and without the extra fuel strainer hose (which certainly doesn’t help get fuel to the pump).

So after more hours contemplating a a costly 2nd pump in a surge tank in the smugglers box, I opted to just pull the tank I had, order the model with the swirl to and do this all over again. It’s the most frustrating but the simplest solution.

This time I’m letting the tank soak in white vinegar, and it appears to be pulling the sealant off the inside of the tank. I’ll try to upload photos. Then I’ll neutralize it with baking soda and water, rinse it with alcohol to pull the water out, then run Delphi FC01 through it.

Hopefully that gets it all.

In addition, I decided to shoot the tank with three coats of black Dupli-Color Trucck Bed coating — it does a great job of creating the thick, rough coating. I think you can then hit it with any gray stone guard if you want the factory color. For this car, I’ll just leave it black and think this will provide better protection and sound deadening then the Por15 Rust Protectant and then Wurth Stone Guard in Gray I used on the first tank.

I used three $16 cans of the Dupli-Color bed liner spray, one per coat for the three coats.

What I don’t know is how well a gray Wurth Stone Guard would adhere to it. Probably fine, but not sure, and I’m ok with black so will stop burning $’s here.

I need to get the old tank out for the buyer and need the new tank in for an upcoming event at Road Atlanta.

Just got the 05 version. Anyone want a good deal on the early one? Upol Gravitex gray looks decent enough. Wurth is water based, Upol is oil based.

Sealant inside dansk tanks

Phaster, you're saying that dansk coats the inside of their new tanks with a sealer that comes loose/dissolves with gasoline????
That's crazy!!!

That was the old instructions I think. The new one suggested a flush, but just for possible dust.

I’m about to start the same project with the same tank. I’m my case I was lucky enough to talk to a smart guy at Pelican who guided me to the correct tank.

I’m planning to clean the inside with the stuff in the picture below. It’s my understanding that there may be contaminants in the tank from the manufacturing process and rinsing it out is one of those better safe than sorry kinda things.

I recently installed the new version of the tank. Flushed it with gasoline. Very small amount of debris came out, certainly nothing to worry about. Coated it with Wurth Stoneguard and then some gloss black. As others have stated, the box says no strainer included, but there was indeed one inside the box with the tank.

Do these 05 number tanks fit earlier 65-73 cars?
