Hey guys, I've seen some similar forums on this but wasn't able to get a clear answer. I'm 6 2" and can't get a helmet on to do track days. Sounds like 85s have a taller seat for some reason?? I was hoping to keep the original seats, and saw you can bend some s springs in the seats to gain an inch?
This may not be enough so I will most likely need to get some race seats. Any suggestions on seats, rails, seatbelt mounts, etc? Recaros? Specific model or details to consider? Is it possible to use a 84 or 86 mount thats lower? I have an amp under driver seat and flat sub under the other one. Theres still a few inches of space above each so we'll see if those have to go. Thanks in advance! ![]() |

Oh one comment is I use the back seats quite a bit (dog, luggage, etc) so fixed backs most likely wont work

Are you in Norcal/SF Bay Area?
Lots of things to consider... Perhaps first is how much track work you will do and whether you plan to install racing harness/harness bar/roll bar, et cetera.

Realistically only 2-4 track days a year so don't think we need to go too crazy on add ons. Just a lower seat to get a helmet on that folds and can slide. I'm eye a set of LXs - anything to consider there?

I know you said no fixed back, but I used a Butlerbuilt and Kirkey road race seat for years and could swap it out in about 10 minutes for a stock seat.
I’m a 6’-4” and it gave me plenty of headroom. ![]() ![]() Kids in the car. Not really. I had lowered the seat to the floor pan at one point and my buddy is short! 😂 ![]() Kirkey Road Race in my E46 ![]() Last edited by A930Rocket; 07-03-2025 at 06:20 PM.. |

Got a pair of these LX's just restored and never sat in/installed - going to do a few black interior pieces that need to be re done anyways to tie it together. Anyone running Recaro LXs? If so what mounting bracket did you use? Ideally with a manual slide fwd/back option.

I’m running LX seats in my ‘80. They are definitely lower than my stock seats, at least 1.5”.
Recaro has sliders that bolt right in. ![]() |

If you are only doing a few track days a year, you might consider getting a race seat and swapping in/out for the event. I ran a Profi SPG and was able to swap it in/out in about 20 minutes.
Check with your organization if they allow race seats and stock belts. I had a PCA tech in one region frown upon it (they let me run that day, but wanted to see a harness bar and harnesses the next time) while another PCA tech in a different region didn’t have a problem with it. |

I have an early (74-80) sport seat in my 84, it sits very low in the car, lower than the Momo fixed back I replaced with it. Super snug, holds very well. Down side is it's heavy compared with the featherweight Momo.
