Which are harder to find 8" or 9" fuchs

Trying to find the answer to the rarity of 8x16 vs 9 x16 fuchs
Seems like the 8x16 where only made for a shorter period than 9x16"
Someone school me please
Thanks

8's started in 78 and were used on turbo's and narrow body cars as an option. 9's were used only on 930's and widebody cars only starting in 86 or so? but the narrow body cars used the 8's all along.
More 8's than 9's

9x16 were only optioned on 1986-9 930's and M491 Carreras. 8x16 were standard or optioned on 911's for many years.

Hence going prices for 9's >> 8's.

Thanks for the replies!
I picked up a pr of 8x16 with 84 date codes
Wasn't sure of the rarity with them

Not rare.

speaking of what is a good set of 16x9's going for?

mepstein 05-28-2025 11:21 AM

$2-3k.

Sounds like we’re talking about 16’s. 15’s are a different strory - they are more rare and $$.

Worth mentioning that Fuchs are still made in both 15" and 16" - still available from the manufacturer; who ask $1200 for a 16x9 satin anodized. 16 Inch Satin Black

The new Fuchs are different - apparently slightly lighter and stronger than the originals. Worth considering/probably better value for money than a 40 year old wheel.

For some, 944 Turbo (951) 16x8's up front were a desirable fitment as they enabled larger calipers (eg "basic Brembos") than you could otherwise fit without spacers.

Apology accepted. ;) It has been beaten to death. :D

To run the 951 16x8 up front you need to shave or roll the fender lips and maximize the negative camber at the strut mount. There's no getting around doing this. If you don't do it, you'll rub the side of the tire on the fender. That is, if you use a 225/50 tire. If you stretch a 205/55 onto the 16x8, it'll give you a lot more tire clearance but looks like garbage and is not a proper tire fitment

The other advantage of the 951 16x8 is brake caliper clearance. The whole reason this wheel (and the 951 16x7 front wheel) was created was to get clearance for the new brakes with larger Brembo calipers that were introduced on the '86 944 Turbo. The wheel has a deeper hub on the back side of the wheel and that effectively pushes the face/petals of the wheel away from the caliper. That's why the lug holes are countersunk (to avoid the need for longer lug studs) and the wheel looks almost exactly like a 911 16x7 Fuchs. It's the same reason a 951 16x7 looks a lot like a 16x6 Fuchs wheel

From this thread Wheels: 16x8 951's vs 911's

951 Fuchs were made for one-year-only, as all 944s got ABS in 1987 and changed to the late offset used on 964 onwards. Apparently 50% of all 951 production was for the 1986 launch, so a few around.

It's true that both the 944 7 & 8 x16 Fuchs do have more caliper clearance, only the 7 is desirable for 911 fitment

the 944 7ET23.3 fits exactly like the 911 ET23.3, these can be a very tight fit depending on ride height, suspension and ire spec.

The 944 8 also has ET23.3 and so sits .5" further out than the already tight 7". It can be done but it also imposes further fairly restrictive limits on ride height suspension and tire choice.

some have also fitted them to the back of a n/b(non S?Carrera) where it is also tight.

an SC/Carrera rear really wants ~8ET10.6, an 8 ET23.3 will want spacers in this application.
