water leak around front wiper motor?

88 carrera coupe

Is there a common cause for water leaking on to the wiper motor area?
Symptoms are the motor stops parking properly in moderate to heavy rain. Often the intermittent wiper control also stops working. (doesn't do anything)

In light rain or dry conditions they are both 100% fine.

I gather I have to remove some air ducts etc to get in there before i can see what’s going on. Hoping there is some common factor so I can order a gasket or whatever ahead of time. Came up empty searching, read about lots of other water leaks. .
TIA!

If it’s not the windshield gasket, it could be the Fresh air intake drain hose that can be broken or slipped off. Mine was brittle and cracked, replaced entire length with dishwasher drain hose (painted satin black).

thanks - I’ll have a look at that! The windshield is new (18 months?) as is the gasket. Hoping that is not the issue. I have not found any water in the frunk or around the footwells.

If you want clear pictures of that area, let me know. I currently have the windshield, center blower assembly and ducting removed. Getting ready to reinstall, so timing is good.

I'm not sure I'm interpreting this statement correctly. it sounds like there is no water ingression.
Is the wiper motor getting wet?

I am pretty sure the motor is getting wet, it only misbehaves in heavy rain. It’s fine otherwise. It stops parking properly. The intermittent control sometimes also stops working at the same time. It’s not a large amount of water or I should have puddles or something.

I’ll dig in there and see whats going on. A dry rotted drain line seems plausible.

Also take a look at the washer hose connections, if you use the washer pump …any clogged nozzle could cause some leaks around the connections, especially if they’re yellowed from age, there’s a “T” connector on the hose line from the driver side nozzle that extends hose to pass. side. Theses lines under pressure of the pump could pop off due to loosing tension and flexibility that hold them on. Perhaps, maybe some washer fluid dribbles from the drivers side could trickle along the hose towards the middle and onto the motor?
I had a Ford Crown Vic that whenever it rained the wiper module got wet and interrupted the working order of the wiper motor. It was a design issue, water would collect in the cowl. Much like the 911, rain water can find its way in and forced thru and into the fresh air vent in the hood.
