Distributor signal issue
Hey all. Having some issues with my distributor. I recently converted to EFI and MS3. Things were idling well, and then after I tried to make some timing adjustments mechanically my distributor stopped sending an RPM signal (via the green wire) to the ECU
After troubleshooting I can get it to send a signal, but only at the far extreme end of the timing adjustment swing, like the last few mm’s (see photo). Just a small movement back from this location, the sending of RPM signal stops. The green wire is intact and not the problem, and adjusting the wires position or bend etc does not change, even intermittently, the successful sending of signal or lacktherof. Is there any reason the distributor would only send a signal at the far end of the timing adjustment and nowhere else? Bad internal sensor etc. Thanks, really confused on this one. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1749955247.jpg |

Grab the wire with your fingers and pull on it with 2-3lbs pull. If it stretches pull harder and the coating will break where it's bad.

I replaced the green wire today. Unfortunately SAME symptoms

Sometimes the pins in the electrical connector can be pushed back and you do not have a solid electrical connection. Might want to pull the green wire and inspect?

Are you sure you're losing the green wire signal? How did you verify? When I had issues I put my oscilloscope on the green wire and could see the signal.
Did you remove the distributor to put in the new EFI? Maybe you're off by a tooth? |
I've seen it where rotating the dizzy causes the signal wire to ground against the oil line that runs behind the dizzy. Also, that rotating the unit puts the HT leads very close to the engine tin causing the spark to jump to the case, not go to the spark plug.
