Did I break my ignition wire?
Changing spark plug wires - pulled the wire off the top of the ignition coil, looks like something stuck in the middle - new wire looks like it is supposed to go around it -
Did I break it off? Do I need a new ignition coil? Right one - old wire, left one new wire.... http://forums.pelicanparts.com/uploa...1750351475.jpg |
No, simply put, they are just constructed differently, both connectors are designed to hold tension inside the coil aperture when pushed in.
Hope this helps. Ant. Quote:

Thanks.... The Clewett doesn't seem to hold in as well as the old Beru, but it's in there. Everything running great.
Thanks |
That center pin in the coil is supposed to stay in place it makes direct contact with the metal conductor inside the plug wire boot. From your photo, it looks like the old wire just had a spring style terminal that grabs around it, which is normal.
Unless the pin broke off or came out with the old wire, your coil should be fine. Just push the new wire on firmly until it clicks into place. You’re probably good. |
