I'll play too, '85 targa for sale-today's market?
Hey guys,
I've been in the market for a 993 or even a 996 with their recent lower prices. Was wondering what I could sell my current P-car for. Bought 2 years ago for 19K with 47,000 miles In a nutshell: triple black paint/interior is 8.5/10 (terrific shape) 60K miles rebuilt tranny and sachs power clutch at 55K miles new alternator 16" fuchs (6's and 7's) targa in excellent shape no leaks h4's (set of broken H1's and brand new stock lights too) Borla dual out exhaust perfomance chip orig. tool set OEM carrera tail with 3rd brake light R134 a/c "upgrade" (still leaks and needs yearly charge) New alpine stereo/cd with serious sound system Totally garaged and pampered. Please advise, and if anyone here wishes to see or buy, I'll cut you a break if it's not sold already!! This car will NOT be listed on ebay. regards and thanks,

I'm sorry to say that from my experience, the p-car market sucks these days. I considered selling my 85 to do the 964/993 upgrade, so I put an add out to "test the waters". In 5 weeks, I got one call. My car is in great shape, has typical mileage (133k), runs great, and was priced very reasonably (< $14k).
I was also calling on other cars (87+ Carreras, 964s) and most of those sellers were saying the same thing - low interest. Lots of guys starting thier cars in the $20k end up dropping down to around $16k. You car has more features than mine so maybe it will generate more interest, but IME, don't expect the phone to ring off the hook.

$15K plus or minus. Mileage is low and tranny rebuild is attractive, but its an 85 and a targa. You might get more if you're really patient.
If you really want to do the upgrade then I think you should just go for it. The upside is that while your car has dropped in value over the past 2 years, the 993s have dropped by a larger margin. |
