Sports Car Center and DriverSource Houston

I need to replace the throwout bearing in my 82 911 SC. Both of these places have been recommended to me for the job which I no longer wish to do myself. (Not as young as I used to be!) Anybody have any thoughts on or recommendations for either of these places?

thanks, Steve

Steve, both are quite capable.

Do you still live in the inner loop? I think I bought a harness bar from you a hundred years ago?

I ask because Einar’s Garage is close and can do the work as well.

Hey Jay, yes, I still live in the interloop. If I remember correctly, you purchased that when I was practicing in Scurlock Tower! Is that correct? I actually went to an open house for Einer. Are you still in the Houston area? Thanks again, Steve.

Hi Steve, been a while for sure. I know Einar personally and his shop has worked on my cars. I also use Rennsport in Sealy and have done some minimal stuff at Drivers Source. I think Sports Car center is Cliff’s place?

I think a clutch throw out bearing is reasonably simple and any of these shops could do the job for you.

Just a public service announcement. 2 friends recently did this. Both just did the throwout bearing. With in 6 months both went back in for a clutch and pilot bearing. You might consider doing the whole thing "while your are in there," so you never have to go back. I did a clutch 6,000 miles ago, throwout bearing was in great shape (10 years old but very few miles on it). Guess whats making noise on my car now. I am a genius.....NOT.

Good to hear. Just making sure, though I hate the "while you're in there (read "triple the price of the work you need done fine sir.")

On a 915 I don't know if the input shaft bearing is replaceable when doing a clutch (don't remember), but input shaft seal should be for sure. Might be a thought too.
