Engine Speed Sensor Removal
I am trying to replace my engine speed sensor, as was failing intermittently. The sensor would rotate, but not come out of the bracket. Trying to pry it out, I broke off the plastic that holds the sensor to the bracket. Now I have nothing to grip it with.
I've read a few comments that if the sensor is stuck, you may not be able to remove it without destroying it. Unfortunately, nothing was said about the manner in which to destroy the sensor, or how this aids in removal. Mine is well and truly destroyed, but I seem no closer to removal. Any advice? |
You need to remove the bracket to deal with it. Don't break the bracket trying to get it out the rest of the way. Might as well replace them both at this point.

Thanks John

As for destroying the sensor, once the bracket is on your bench, use a 15mm drill bit.

Thanks again for the advice. Once the bracket was off, I was able to tap out the damaged sensor. To get the gap right, I was able to fit an angled feeler gauge between the new sensor and flywheel.

You had a 0.8mm feeler gauge?

Pretty close 0.030" = 0.76 mm.
