I am going to comment that I would never, ever, ever, try that. All of that work to gamble on a china made oil pump does not make sense to me. Just MHO.

They moved your original thread to marketplace. If you keep making threads, they will warn and eventually ban you.

Eventually someone will buy and evaluate one, and share the results. Will be interesting to see the outcome.

Yeah I don't even know why a supplier would stick their nose into that market. Super low volume, super high risk, relatively low cost delta.

Is it a similar pump as something else and they're just saying it's good for the 911 block?

If the same supplier makes the same part for other "OEMs" in the same factory, would that help ?

OP should buy one, open it up and show us.

Sort of. Just because they have the right tooling to make the part doesn't mean they're using it the same way or to the same quality standards.

That's besides the point.

I'm just trying to address your question why the supplier would venture into such a market.

With a lot of other things it seems like a manufacturer sources things from China and then shortly thereafter there are cheap Chinese knockoffs that hit the market. Sometimes they are more or less identical sometimes built to a lower level to help them undercut the original “manufacturer” of the item.

What would be interesting is to look at what brands are out there that look suspiciously similar and are maybe a bit vague about where they are actually manufactured.

It does look like a pretty direct knockoff of the Porsche 911 pump, not some generic repurposed pump. It's even got 4 ribs. Quality is a question mark until someone knowledgeable has a look at one for starters.

OBX has a whole business model of manufacturing copies of quality parts for silly cheap prices. They aren’t the only one. As I posted in the other thread that got moved, there were more than 400k air cooled cars made. Clearly someone thinks there’s enough volume at the bottom of this market to cast them.

And cast iron, so adding a chunk of weight as well as risk……

The Turbo pumps are made of cast iron. It's more durable and changes dimensions less with temperature changes. That said, I don't trust any parts from China, because I've had too many with quality issues.

Half the stuff we consume these days is from China - even products from reputable sources. The key is production standards and QA.

Have to agree there's nothing wrong with cast iron for an oil pump, even Porsche has done that.

Considering that it would take about 40 hours to get to that pump, AND the $$$ implications of a failed oil pump on these engines in particular, you’d have to be nuts to even contemplate using this.
I don’t think the patent-law-ignoring Chinese counterfeiters will do well on this one for those reasons.

Not saying I'll be the guinea pig, to be clear. Still would be interesting to see results of an examination of one of these.
